💰 Money in vs money out (profit & loss)
Jess earned $8,000 from cleaning jobs. She spent $2,500 on supplies, fuel and her phone. So she made $5,500 profit. That’s like selling $8 of lemonade, spending $2.50 on lemons and sugar, and keeping $5.50.
🎒 What you own vs what you owe (balance sheet)
Jess owns a van worth about $15,000 and has $4,000 in the bank. She still owes $9,000 on the van loan. What’s really hers: $10,000. Like a backpack: what’s inside, minus what you borrowed from a friend.
🚰 Cash flow (when money actually moves)
Jess made a profit, but $1,800 of her invoices aren’t paid yet. Profit is the water you’re owed; cash is the water in your bucket today. We chase the $1,800 so her bucket fills up.

Why I started this
When I started out, I lost money simply because I didn’t send invoices on time. I’d finish a job, get busy with the next one, and the invoice would sit there.
Most sole traders I know are the same. You’re great at the work; the paperwork is the bit that slips. So we built Nexus Numbers to do that bit for you, and to explain your numbers in words that actually make sense.

Our on-time promise (every package)
Once you confirm a job and approve the invoice, it goes out within 24 hours (one business day), or that week is free.
For comparison: a local bookkeeper averages about A$79 an hour (ICB 2024 survey), and invoice-chasing software alone can cost A$399 a month.
Your accounting software subscription is separate and stays in your name. Set-aside budgets are based on what you’ve paid before. They’re not a tax calculation or tax advice.

We don’t prepare or lodge BAS or tax returns, and we don’t give tax advice. Your accountant or BAS agent still does that. We keep your books tidy and explain what’s already in them, so their job (and yours) is easier.
